Amico Friulano del Dosso

Biography Friulian Friend of Dosso

The Friulian Friend of Dosso was an anonymous Italian painter, active in northern Italy between 1510 and 1540. This personality was reconstructed by Roberto Longhi in 1960, who gathered under this unusual appellation a series of paintings halfway between the Ferrarese taste of Dosso Dossi and the Veneto-Friulian culture of Pordenone. Although the group of portraits is quite homogeneous and mostly with the same three-quarter cut (one preserved at the Uffizi), the association of religious works is more difficult, which today, compared to Longhi's initial study, are sometimes attributed to other authors. Federico Zeri recognized him in the figure of Girolamo Marchesi da Cotignola.
